Description
The Alphabet Writing Dice are a fun way for students to practise writing the letters of the alphabet they are learning. There are 5 sets. Each set contains a die with 5 lower case letters, a die with 5 upper case letters and a die with 5 picture cues related to the 5 letters on the other die. Each set matches a unit in the Cracking the ABC Code Multisensory Reading Level 1 program, but can be used independently. There are also two blank templates.
Each letter is placed on coloured ‘third’ lines so students can clearly see the size and position of each letter. There is also a dot and arrow on each letter indicating the starting point and the direction of movement to ensure students are forming the letters correctly.
The pack comes with a colour-coded dotted-thirds lined page on which students can write the letters.
The student can:
- Throw the lower case (or upper case) die, say the sound of the letter and picture cue showing on the top of the die (e.g., /p/ pig) and then copy the letter showing onto the manuscript paper.
- Throw the lower case die, say the sound of the letter and picture cue and then write the upper case version of the letter (or vice-versa).
- Throw the picture die, say the object and the first sound (e.g., pig /p/) and then write either the lower case letter or the upper case letter or both.
You can make the activity competitive by challenging students to be the first person to have all 5 letters written on the page (i.e., at some stage all letters have been showing on the top of the die).
