Description

The Multisensory Reading Program Level 3A is a 25 unit course designed for students who are having difficulty learning to read, including those with dyslexia. It uses ‘science of reading ‘ principles to systematically introduce the more complex phonemes and their common graphic forms using a multisensory format.

The program consists of 6 interlinking sections:

  • General Knowledge
  • Phoneme and Vocabulary Development
  • Comprehension
  • Oral Reading
  • A chunking activity containing the focus grapheme(s) which teaches students how to break words into smaller units to reduce the load on working memory
  • A phonological processing activity as this is a skill that underpins reading and spelling.

It has been designed so that each section complements and reinforces the other sections, and utilises techniques based on current literacy and memory research.

It is assumed that students know the basic sound-symbol relationship of the alphabet and have some knowledge of the more common digraphs.

It is recommended that students have a reading accuracy age of between 6½ years to 7 years.

I just wanted to let you know that it is the only thing that has worked for my son with his reading – he is high functioning ASD with some other learning issues. He said recently – why didn’t they just explain it like this in the first place?!

I am loving the book! Your program was recommended to me by a MSL tutor that my daughter was working with as a way to continue on my own. My daughter is homeschooled and was having a lot of trouble with literacy and I wasn’t sure how to help. She’s progressing well now and I’m looking forward to continuing with the program. I especially love the timed reading sections. I think that has made all the difference in stepping up her reading fluency.

I like that this program addresses all areas of deficit including as oral language skills, building understanding and use of vocabulary, comprehension, understanding figurative language, spelling and deciphering non words.I have really enjoyed using the Rules Rule and The Multisensory reading programs with my son. We have seen some great improvements with his reading and spelling which has meant greater confidence with his writing.

I have incorporated this program into my 1:1 and small group intervention with students from Grade 3/4/5/6 for the last semester of this year and it is working wonders. With this program I am guiding them how to read instead of teaching them how to think, as it has the following components; spelling, comprehension, oral reading, syllabification and the introduction of the spelling rules as you go. Brilliant is the word I would use to describe this program and I am now in the process of researching what other resources from the Cracking the ABC Code shop I can incorporate into my program. Thank you Dr Lillian Fawcett. Warm regards, Trudy
